Ryan Sander: On Dec. 11, 2009, Simpson athletic director John Sirianni announced the hiring of Ryan Sander as the head coach of the Simpson women's soccer program. The head women's coach at Waukee High School for the past eight seasons, Sander becomes the fourth head coach in program history.

Serving as head coach from 2002 to 2009, Sander coached the Warriors to Iowa State Tournament appearances in 7-of-8 his years at the helm. His teams finished lower than second in the CIML-Iowa only once, capturing a conference championship in 2004. Waukee advanced to the state regional semifinals in 2007 and 2008, made the regional finals in 2009 and finished as the state runner-up in 2002.

In addition to his coaching duties at Waukee, Sander is a member of the Iowa Olympic Development camp staff. He also served in a number of capacities at the Vision Soccer Academy in Waukee since 2004, including Director of Curriculum and Player Development for the U-8 and U-10 boys from 2006-2008. Most recently, he held the head coaching position for the U-12 girls. From 2002-2004 Sander was a head coach in the Ames Soccer Academy.

As a player, Sander was a member of the Iowa State University Club Team from 1999-2004, after earning All-Midwest Classic Conference honorable mention honors as a sweeper for St. Ambrose University in 1998. A four-time all-conference honoree as a prep at Dallas Center-Grimes High School, Sander earned first team all-conference recognition as a forward in 1997-98, adding first team all-state honors in 1998.

Sander graduated from Iowa State in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design. From 2005-2009, he was a construction project manager at Wells Fargo Financial.


 

Garrett Biller:  Coach Biller returns to the Storm Soccer Camp in 2010. Biller was the assistant camp director in 2006, 2008 and 2009.  Coach Biller recently completed his first season as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University.   Prior to coaching at NIU, Biller was an assistant men's soccer coach at Hastings College (Neb.).  The Broncos compiled a 44-14-5 record, and finished in the national NAIA top-25 in all three years. Biller helped coach Hastings to three conference and regional championships, and was deeply involved in recruiting, travel, and scouting.

Before coaching at Hastings, Biller was a graduate assistant coach at Wayne State, where he served as the women's team's top assistant and goalkeeping coach. With Biller's help, the Wildcats turned a corner in program history, ranking 15th among the most improved soccer teams in the nation.

Biller started his winning ways as a player at Simpson College. In his four seasons, the Storm went 55-23-8, and played in four postseason tournaments. With eight career goals and 10 career assists as a centerback, Biller displayed a tenacity on the pitch that helped Simpson to its highest ever ranking in the NSCAA poll in 2000.

Biller also has experience with the Nebraska Olympic Developmental Program, where he acted as the 1995 boy's head coach, and as a coach at multiple summer camps, including Northern Illinois, Oregon State, and Creighton.

After graduating from Simpson in 2003 with a degree in sports administration, Biller earned his master's in sports management from Wayne State in 2006.


Michael Prunty: Coach Michael Prunty is the newest addition to the Simpson College Soccer Camp staff.  Coach Prunty recently completed his second season as assistant men’s soccer at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.  In 2008, Prunty helped lead the St. Ambrose Men to the NAIA National Tournament and a #4 seed in the country.  Coach Prunty was active in all facets of a quality collegiate program and assisted in recruiting, practice planning, and working summer camps for the Fightin’ Bees.  While in Davenport, he also co-founded and was a lead coach for Black Select Soccer Club and trained teams with Quad City United and Eastern Iowa Soccer Association.   His Black Select teams competed in showcases and tournament across the Midwest.

Prior to coaching at St. Ambrose, Prunty was a staff trainer and team coach at Colorado United, one the largest clubs in Denver, Colorado.  He was the team coach for the U11 Boys and staff trained U16 Boys, U17 Boys, and U17-U18 Girls.  He also conducted private training sessions for several club members. 

Coach Prunty has additional experience coaching in Central Iowa.  He was a team coach and academy trainer for Vision Soccer Academy.   He also assisted with high school programs in Winterset and Waukee, Iowa.

Coach Prunty is a Simpson Graduate (’04) and former starter for the Storm soccer program.  He graduated from Simpson with a Bachelor’s in Physical Education and will be receiving his Master’s in Education from St. Ambrose University this May.
